What Is An Extended Warranty?
The Basics
When you buy a vehicle it's covered by a factory warranty for a set number of months or miles. An extended warranty is a separate agreement that continues that protection afterward — paying for covered mechanical and electrical repairs so you're not stuck with the full cost of a failed transmission, AC compressor, or electronics module. It can be paid up front or rolled into your financing, is fully transferable if you sell the car, and you can cancel any time for a pro-rated refund.
